Vocabulary, expression, and conversation in Thai on topics of greeting, self-introduction, saying goodbye, family, everyday objects, number and time indicating, activities, conditions, shapes, and characteristics.


025104 - BASIC THAI FOR FOREIGNERS 2 (3 credits)

Vocabulary, expression, and conversation in Thai on topics of recreation, entertainment, tradition, art and culture, economy, society, science, technology, and current situation in Thailand.


025105 - BASIC LISTEN & SPEAK TH (3 credits)

Characteristics of Thai sounds. Listening in order to identify Thai sounds. Principles of listening in order to identify keywords in conversation and narration from Thai native speakers. Conversation and narration in daily life.


025106 - INTERMEDIATE LISTENING IN THAI (3 credits)

Grasping and summarizing main ideas from listening to media on topics of recreation, entertainment, tradition, art and culture, economy, society, science, and technology.


025107 - INTERMEDIATE SPEAKING IN THAI (3 credits)

Expressing ones’ opinions through speaking, making discussion, and interviewing on topics of recreation, entertainment, tradition, art and culture, economy, society, science, and technology.


025108 - BASIC READ & WRIT THAI (3 credits)

Reading aloud; tone assignment; writing consonants, vowels, tones, words, phrases, and basic sentences.


025109 - INTERMEDIATE READING IN THAI (3 credits)

Basic principles of reading. Reading notices and advertisements, short conversations, short news, stories from experiences, and short tales.


025110 - INTERMEDIATE WRITING IN THAI (3 credits)

Principles of writing; writing complex sentences; writing medium-sized texts about experiences, using a diary, answering questions, and expressing opinions.


025204 - ADVANCED SPEAKING IN THAI 1 (3 credits)

Principles and components of speaking. Various modes of speaking from memorization, from the draft, from comprehension, and impromptu speaking. Speaking for specific purposes to give knowledge, to entertain, and to convince the audience.


025205 - THAI FOR TOURISM 1 (3 credits)

Definition and characteristics of tourism; Thai language usage related to tourism; and Thai language usage for organizing tour program.


025206 - THAI FOR BUSINESS 1 (3 credits)

General characteristics of business language. Vocabulary, expressions, and conversations about retail and wholesale business, tourism, hotel industry, finance and banking, insurance, real estate, contacting the business organization, job application, and job interview.

Advanced principles of reading, reading aloud with correct pronunciation, reading for comprehension in order to identify the main idea, analyze, and interpret texts. Reading news, documentary, article, academic texts, and fiction.

Basic knowledge of writing government official documents. Principles of government official language usage. Art of writing government official documents. Writing for communication in government official documents context, meeting report, official report, project, and public relation writing.

Factors making public speaking interesting. Guideline for speaking competence development. Speaking skill development in form of recommendation, speaking on special occasions, discussion, persuasion, public speech, interview, and debate.


025306 - THAI FOR BUSINESS 2 (3 credits)

Aspects of language and problems in business communication. Art and techniques of word selection in business writing. Writing for business communication in form of business letter, memorandum, business report, project, and public relation statement.


025307 - THAI IN MASS MEDIA (3 credits)

Meaning and types of mass media; patterns of language usage in various types of mass media; oral news reporting and news report writing; column writing; and interview report writing.


025310 - CHAR OF TH LANG FOR FOREIGNERS (3 credits)

General knowledge of Thai and Tai languages. Characteristics of Thai sounds, voice organs, pronunciation, the pronunciation of consonants, vowels, and tones. Characteristics of Thai words, morphemes, and word formation. Characteristics of Thai sentences including components, structures, structural changes, and types of sentences.

Basic concepts of the first language, second language, and foreign languages; characteristics of Thai as a foreign language (TFL); theories of language acquisition; language interference; types of foreign language learners and teachers; and problems of TFL learners.

Definitions, categorization, and components of literature; the relationship between literature and other disciplines.

Origins and definition of juvenile literature; contents, ideas, and techniques appeared in juvenile literature; analysis of selected juvenile literature.


025411 - TRANSLATION 1 (3 credits)

Basic translation theories; translation process; tools and technology for translation; analysis, interpretation and tool application for translation; translation techniques; Thai translation in different levels; word, phrase, sentence, text, short essay, and medium-length essay; problems found in translation and solution.


025412 - TRANSLATION 2 (3 credits)

Techniques for translating documents related to society, economy and culture; academic and literary works translation; audio-visual media translation; evaluation and edition of translation work in the forms of documents and audio-visual media.


025420 - THAI CULTURE IN THAI LANGUAGE (3 credits)

Approaches to the relationship between language and culture. Words reflecting Thai culture. Origins, structures, contents, meanings, and the relationship between Thai expressions and Thai ways of life.

Fundamental linguistic theories. Fundamental linguistic approaches for Thai language studies including phonetics, phonology, lexicology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics.

Theories, textbooks, techniques; methods, and problems of learning and teaching Thai as a foreign language; testing of Thai as a foreign language.

Origins of Thai alphabets. Thai alphabets and orthography in different periods of time. Changes in the Thai language in terms of sound, word, sentence, and expression.


025480 - THAI MAST LIT FOR FOREIGN (3 credits)

Definition, scope, and convention of Thai masterpiece literature; forms, contents, ideas, values, and attributes of selected Thai masterpiece literature: Ramakian, Phra Aphaimani, and Khun Chang Khun Phaen; and the relationship between the Thai masterpiece literature and important places in Thailand.

Meaning and characteristics of Thai local folk tales; Thai local folk tales of different regions in Thailand; values and relationship between Thai local folk tales in each region.
